Access to the lower level of the house is via the staircase from the living room or through the very generous double garage, almost on the scale of a car showroom. From the garage you enter a small refreshment area, tastefully decorated with car-racing memorabilia. From here you have access to the large utility room, which houses the washer, dryer and secomat, as well as the server for the smart home. A guest bedroom, converted from a cellar, can also be accessed from the refreshment area. This charming room, with faux wooden planks on the walls and red carpet makes a very cosy place for guests to stay. From here, you also have access to the bunker, which has been converted into a wine cellar / storage room. The last door on this floor leads to the fitness / wellness area of the property. Fitted out with a changing room / bathroom, a juice bar, and a beautiful indoor pool, heated with the help of recently-installed solar panels, this area leaves nothing to be desired and creates a wonderful sense of well-being.

Lower ground floor


At the foot of the stairs you reach a small hallway with a refreshment stand that functions as the central point of the lower ground level. From the hallway you have access to the large utility room, the double garage, the cellar and bunker area, which have been converted into a guest bedroom and wine cellar respectively, as well as the pool and fitness area.

Upon entering the property by the main entrance, you feel a sense of elevation. Immediately to your left you will find the wardrobe for your coats as the foyer leads you into the very welcoming living area with fireplace. The dining area is located conveniently next to the kitchen and opens up onto the covered terrace area, allowing a mix of formal and al fresco dining.

The office, located directly opposite the dining room offers access to a different part of the covered terrace/seating area, extending the footprint of your office area. Built-in cupboards and cleverly designed bookshelf wallpaper complete this dream come true for anyone who works from home.

 "Ancient" History

As early as the Middle Stone Age, but also in the Bronze Age, settlers left their mark on the Surbtal (Surb Valley). The first population came to the area with the conquest of land by the Alemanni.

"Entingas"

The community of Endingen is documented for the first time in the year 798: Under the Count of Thurgau, Odalricus, the monastery of St. Gallen was given some land as a gift, and there "in inferiore Leginwanc (Lengnau) et in Entingas (Endingen)" were named. In the 12th century the barons of Tegerfelden were the masters of the village. In 1239, a dynasty of knights is mentioned in Endingen itself - a family of servants whose coat of arms corresponds to the municipality’s coat of arms today. This family was initially associated with the Knights of Regensburg and the Bishop of Constance. Of course, the Habsburgs also had an influence in the Surb valley: Endingen is mentioned in the "Habsburger Urbar (land register) of 1305". The counts also held the high court (blood court). After the conquest of the county of Baden by the Confederates, the bailiffs of Baden were in charge!

Jews in Endingen

According to the decision of the Assembly of the Eight Old Cantons in 1678, Jews were allowed to settle in the Surbtal communities of Endingen and Lengnau. This slowly but steadily changed the appearance of the community. The Jewish and Christian families often lived under one roof. The synagogue from the mid-19th century is the most striking symbol of this eventful time. Although coexistence was not always easy, Christians and Jews came to terms with each other in daily life. In the middle of the last century the village had around 2,000 inhabitants - half Jews and half Christians. For comparison: at that time only 1,500 people lived in the city of Baden. The Jewish residents were only allowed to practice a few professions, such as trade.

It was only in 1876 that the Jews received full equality in civil rights and privileges. With this, the Bollag, Blochs, Braunschweig, Dreifuss, Kohn, Picard, Pollak and Wyler families moved away from Endingen, settling far and wide. Some of them became well-known figures, such as Bruno Bloch, director of the Dermatological University Clinic in Zurich, the film director William Wyler or the former Federal Councillor and President Ruth Dreifuss.

Today, the double doors of the residential buildings, the synagogue and so many other structural features in the community still point to this eventful time.  This period - and the lessons learned from it - remain firmly anchored in the consciousness of the population.

Endingen Today  

The Endingen authorities understood how to openly support the development of the region and the country without losing touch with reality. The modern district school, the swimming pool, the well-developed infrastructure and the connection to the REFUNA district heating network are evidence of this. The arrival of newcomers has resulted in a good mix in village social life, with both openness to the new and historical awareness.

The anniversary celebration of 1,200 years Endingen / Unterendingen in 1998 was a highlight in the area.

The municipality of Endingen has now developed into an attractive place to live. The unspoiled nature, the proximity to the centers of Baden, Zurich and Basel, the excellent range of schools and the familiarity of the village setting, with shops, clubs and good local infrastructure, make the pretty village a pearl. The healthy growth of the population allows values such as openness and the new to combine with an awareness of tradition and the tried and tested. With the regional district school and the postbus service, the village has taken on the importance of a local centre.

The two communities of Endingen and Unterendingen merged on January 1st, 2014.

Access


The property is accessible from the double garage or the main entrance. The terrace and garden area can also be accessed from one of the outside parking spots. A very practical delivery entrance to the kitchen allows for easy access when returning from the grocery shop.

In Endingen you can find all of the necessary convenience stores. The Denner and Volg supermarkets can be reached within a few minutes’ walk, and there is also a butcher’s, a bakery, a bank, as well as a post office in the town.

The downstairs level with its indoor swimming pool and fitness area offer the perfect place to start or end the day with exercise and relaxation. A juice bar incorporated in the gym only adds to the feel-good factor.
